Yesterday in Madrid we started off at Chocolat, where we had chocolate, churros, y porras (like churros but bigger). At about 10:30 we went to the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, which has a collection of mostly 20th century art, like Picasso, Miró, Dalí, etc. The centerpiece of the museum is Picasso´s
Guernica, but we can´t show you photos because they are very strict about photography. They do allow some of the works to be photographed, see below. After the museum we went to El Parque del Retiro, watched the entertainers, and rented rowboats. Much fun had by all. We hadn't seen any of the street vendors this time, we thought that the police had cracked down on them since the last time we were here. But after we left the rowboats, there were vendors lined up all down the avenue along the lake, mostly Africans with their stuff on the pick-up-and-run blankets. Most of us ended up buying souvenirs from them, since their prices are less than 1/2 of what you pay in the souvenir shops. I could only get them down to 10 fans for 15 euros.
We got to Salamanca yesterday at about 8 pm. The host families were waiting for us, and in less than 5 minutes the kids were whisked off to their new homes. They all showed up this morning at the school, so far so good.
